Ainsworth-Benning Construction seeks a Project Manager to join the Construction Management team in Spearfish, SD. 

Job Summary

Responsible to manage a project through all phases of construction, including preconstruction, execution and closeout. Must be able to initiate action and manage change in a dynamic environment that is consistent with management philosophy and culture. Provide leadership and leverage experience to develop and grow commercial construction management (CM) projects.

Work directly with field superintendents to coordinate construction efforts that drive efficiency and process improvement in safety, quality, productivity and costs. Provide leadership and communication, promote collaboration, facilitate team development and growth, and develop long-lasting community relationships. Balance long-term thinking and short-term execution.

Essential Responsibilities

Cost Management

  • Develop project strategy; oversee planning and coordination efforts.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and contract specifications.
  • Solicit and maintain consistent workload and ensure resource availability and allocation.
  • Ensure all projects are quality-focused, delivered on-time, and within scope and budget.
  • Conduct estimating for both construction management and hard-bid projects.
  • Manage all financial aspects of projects to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the customer.
  • Oversee and manage project budgets versus actual costs; forecasting, revenues, profits.
  • Develop detailed project plans to track production progress and production goals.
  • Monitor and control project through administrative direction of on-site leadership to ensure project meets or exceeds standards.
  • Stay abreast on innovative and cutting-edge equipment and construction methods.

Relationship Management

  • Collaborate closely with field Superintendents and skilled trades to plan, organize and direct activities concerned with construction projects.
  • Facilitate team development and growth, employee skill development.
  • Promote and create safety-oriented environment; create job specific safety plans, investigate potentially serious situations, and implement corrective measures.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with owners and other contacts to facilitate project activities.
  • Create and maintain a good working relationship with all team members.
  • Promote the guiding principles and core values of Journey Group.


  • Comprehension of construction drawings, structural shop drawings and specifications.
  • Efficient use of Microsoft office products and computer based maintenance and reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of general safe work practices within construction industry, specifically steel and precast erection.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to build strong teams and effectively lead and positively influence others
  • Basic accounting, budgeting, and cost management experience.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, proactive with a sense of urgency.
  • Solid analytical, problem solving and resolution, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change, embrace new ideas.


Bachelor's degree in Construction management, engineering, or related field, plus 10+ years leading and managing projects is required; or the equivalent of education and experience to meet the essential functions of the position. Must possess a valid state issued driver's license and evidence of insurability.
